Baby of the week: Grangemouth tot Sophie Mitchell

Dad Paul Mitchell is an operations supervisor at the Port of Grangemouth, while mum Gillian Mitchell – nee Kerr – is a sales assistant at Klondyke Garden Centre. Sophie has a big brother, Freddie, who was born in 2019 and absolutely adores her. He like to help bath Sophie and is always checking on her. The family live in Grangemouth.

Sophie made her arrival into the world three weeks early.

Mum and dad mutually liked the name Sophie after going through many names that one liked but the other didn’t. Sophie’s middle name, Grace, is in memory of Gillian’s mum, who passed in February 2022 before getting to meet her beautiful granddaughter.

Mum and dad would like to thank all of the maternity team at Forth Valley Royal, especially Dr Paul Holmes who looked after Sophie and the couple throughout Gillian’s pregnancy after finding out at the 12 week scan that Sophie was to be born with Trisomy 21. They would also like to thank Down Syndrome Scotland for all their support of Sophie and the extended family after her diagnosis. Mum and dad added a huge thanks to Sophie’s fantastic health visitor, Carol Barclay, for all the support and care of Sophie since she came home.
