FALKIRK school pupils have been helping a hair salon to be a cut above the rest in a new business venture.
The group of S5 youngsters from Falkirk High are working with staff at Renella to create a new salon specifically aimed at 16 to 24-year-olds.

The 12 boys and four girls spent a week giving their ideas about what
they would be looking for.

Renella owner Ross Wilson said: "We wanted to use the upstairs in the salon to do something a bit different and unusual.

"We got in touch with company Space Unlimited who went round the schools and offered this as a project for pupils, and Falkirk High took us up on it.

"Their ideas were all really sensible too which was great – lots of ideas about how the salon looks, and about what technology and music we could use.

"The idea behind creating a salon for this age group is to attract a younger clientele, and also to give the young stylists here a chance to work on younger hair from an early stage in their career."

The group presented their proposals to hairdressing company Wella who will create a plan of how the salon might look.

Once these have been complete, the pupils will then be in charge of the marketing of the new salon, which they've decided to name Upstairs at Renella.

Ross added: "It's a challenge for them, but they all really enjoyed the week and I had a great time too.

"I think it changed their perceptions of what hairdressing is really like too.

"They all said it was their best last week at school ever."
