CROWDS turned out to mark the start of Falkirk's festive season.

Sunday's annual Christmas light switch-on attracted hundreds of people of all ages to enjoy the entertainment and see the High Street and surrounding areas transformed by thousands of twinkling lights.

Youngsters from Falkirk Youth Choir performed a medley of songs, before Q20 Theatre Company unveiled their thigh-slapping, swashbuckling mini pantomime Peter Pan. Captain Hook, the Crocodile and Tinkerbell were all on stage to delight the audience with the well-known tale of Neverland.

Then it was time for the big countdown when Provost Pat Reid, along with Lauren Miller (8), of Falkirk, performing the big switch on. Lauren, who was accompanied by little sister Emma (5), won the chance to light up the town centre in a competition run by Falkirk and District Town Centre Management and The Falkirk Herald.

The previous evening, Grangemouth's light switch-on took place when Provost Reid was joined by Children's Day Queen Shelley Gibbon to do the honours. The cast of Peter Pan were also on hand to entertain the appreciative audience.

This Saturday, the Christmas lights will be switched on in Denny town centre at 4 p.m., with the Stenhousemuir lighting ceremony at 5 p.m.
